Iceberg influence on snow distribution and slush formation on Antarctic landfast sea ice from airborne multi-sensor observations [PDF]
Landfast sea ice fringes much of the coast of Antarctica and plays an important role for coastal ice–ocean–atmosphere interaction and ice shelf stability, as well as for the sea ice associated ecosystem.

Optimization results for a generalized coupon collector problem [PDF]
We study in this paper a generalized coupon collector problem, which consists in analyzing the time needed to collect a given number of distinct coupons that are drawn from a set of coupons with an arbitrary probability distribution.

A volcano‐inspired dual‐carbon aerogel featuring hierarchical conduits and an outer carbon‐fiber shell directs rapid water transport, confines heat, and enables directional salt migration. Radial temperature gradients in the conical structure trigger Marangoni‐driven edge‐localized salt crystallization while maintaining an unobstructed photothermal ...

Southern Ocean warming: Increase in basal melting and grounded ice loss [PDF]
We apply a global finite element sea ice/ice shelf/ocean model (FESOM) to the Antarctic marginal seas to analyze projections of ice shelf basal melting in a warmer climate.

Who Are the Consumers of European Farmers' Markets? A Cross‐Country Analysis
ABSTRACT With substantial growth in the number of farmers' markets (FMs) in developed countries, the number of consumers visiting FMs is also increasing. This study comparatively assesses the consumers of FMs in three European countries where FMs traditionally play a distinctive role in food supply chains.

Testing the Marketing Performance of German Wheat Farmers
ABSTRACT This paper analyses the marketing performance of wheat farmers in Germany. Wheat sales data from 465 individual farms over a 12‐year period are used to test against different market benchmarks. Market benchmarks are constructed by simulating passive trading agents using regional wheat prices.

First record of the occurrence of sea ice in the Cordillera Darwin fjords (54°S), Chile
This paper provides the first evidence for sea-ice formation in the Cordillera Darwin (CD) fjords in southern Chile, which is farther north than sea ice has previously been reported for the Southern Hemisphere.

Icebergs, sea ice, blue carbon and Antarctic climate feedbacks [PDF]
Sea ice, including icebergs, has a complex relationship with the carbon held within animals (blue carbon) in the polar regions. Sea-ice losses around West Antarctica's continental shelf generate longer phytoplankton blooms but also make it a hotspot for ...
