Spatial and temporal distribution of fish eggs and larvae in a subtropical coastal lagoon, Santa Catarina State, Brazil

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
This study investigated the variation in abundance, distribution and composition of ichthyoplankton in a lagoon in southern Brazil through the year and at different stations within the lagoon.

Differential responses of coolwater fishes to a whole‐lake reduction of a warmwater thermal guild

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Climate change is transforming the ecology of lakes at a rapid pace, shifting some lakes toward warmwater‐dominant habitats. As a result, warmwater fishes are increasingly becoming more prevalent in lakes where they already existed, altering the patterning and strength of species interactions. Understanding shifting species interactions (e.g.,

Changes in the abundance and distribution of rorqual prey in the Northeast United States over four decades

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract The distribution, phenology, and population dynamics of species at multiple trophic levels have been impacted by climate change across a range of spatial scales. Upper trophic level species may be uniquely impacted through changes to prey species and foraging habitats in space and time.

External Morphology of Leporinus oliveirai (Characiformes: Anostomidae) During Early Life Stages

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 286, Issue 7, July 2025.
Herein, we describe the early development of Leporinus oliveirai, a recently described species, documenting its external morphology with photographs and illustrations. The ontogeny of L. oliveirai is compared with other anostomids and developmental patterns are described for the family.

Temporal evolution of plankton and particles distribution across a mesoscale front during the spring bloom

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue S1, Page S40-S54, July 2025.
Abstract The effect of mesoscale features on the distribution of planktonic organisms are well documented. Yet, the interaction between these spatial features and the temporal scale, which can result in sudden increases of the planktonic biomass, is less known and not described at high resolution.

Evaluation of the Zone of Influence and Entrainment Impacts for an Intake Using a 3-Dimensional Hydrodynamic and Transport Model

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2014
Ballast water systems in large LNG carriers are essential for proper operations and stability. Water withdrawn from the surrounding environment to supply to the ballast can pose entrainment and impingement risk to the resident fish population ...

Taxonomic Richness and Diversity of Larval Fish Assemblages in the Oceanic Gulf of Mexico: Links to Oceanographic Conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2020
Biodiversity enhances the productivity and stability of marine ecosystems and provides important ecosystem services. The aim of this study was to characterize larval fish assemblages in pelagic waters of the northern Gulf of Mexico (NGoM) and identify ...

Climate Change Impacts on Antarctic Fish Diversity: A Circumpolar Perspective From eDNA Metabarcoding Assessment

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 31, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Recent climate‐driven changes in the Antarctic marine environment, marked by regional differences between West and East Antarctica, may alter ecosystem dynamics. As key components of the food web, fish might reflect these changes. This study examines fish biodiversity patterns across four typical Antarctic seas by integrating eDNA analysis

Temporal Variation of the Early Life Stages of Marine Fish Assemblage Structure and Abundance in the Bohai Bay

open access: yesProgress in Fishery Sciences
Bohai Bay is an important spawning and nursery habitat for a variety of economically important fish inhabiting the Yellow and Bohai seas. Based on a meta-analysis of historical data spanning 40 years, combined with a field survey of current fish habitat ...
