Target‐site and non‐target‐site mechanisms confer multiple herbicide resistance in waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus) accessions from Wisconsin

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The A101 accession is the first confirmed case of hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase resistance in Amaranthus tuberculatus in Wisconsin, and the first report of P450s associated with atrazine resistance in A. tuberculatus globally. Abstract BACKGROUND A preliminary screening identified a multiple herbicide‐resistant waterhemp, Amaranthus tuberculatus ...

The Pluralism of International Criminal Law [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This Article develops a pluralistic account of substantive international criminal law (ICL). Challenging the dominant assumption among theorists and practitioners, it argues that the search for consistency and uniformity in ICL is misguided, that the law

Evidence for a Redshifted Excess in the Intracluster Light Fractions of Merging Clusters at z ∼ 0.8

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The intracluster light (ICL) fraction is a well-known indicator of the dynamical activity in intermediate-redshift clusters. Merging clusters in the redshift interval 0.18 < z < 0.56 have a distinctive peak in the ICL fractions measured between ∼3800 and

Larval antibiosis to cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) is absent within oilseed rape (Brassica napus)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
We screened a panel of 98 Brassicaceae genotypes (97 Brassica napus and 1 Sinapis alba) for cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) larval antibiosis. We found limited evidence for antibiosis across B. napus but consistent antibiosis in S. alba. Brassicaceae relatives may therefore better inform resistance traits for breeding.

Protein crystal growth in low gravity [PDF]

open access: yes
A study is presented of the crystallization of isocitrate lyase (ICL) and the influence of the lack of thermal solutal convection in microgravity on the morphology of ICL crystals is discussed.

Mechanistic Insight Into Ionizable Cationic Lipid‐Mediated Endosomal Escape via Transient Lipid Complexes

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained simulations show that the formation of transient anionic–cationic lipid pairs regulates the rate‐limiting step for the lamellar‐to‐hexagonal phase transition in mixtures of anionic and cationic lipids mimicking the endosomal membrane after fusion with lipid‐based nanoparticles, thus playing an important role in the endosomal escape of ...

Coevolution of intracluster light and brightest cluster galaxies

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Intracluster light (ICL) is a faint stellar component of galaxy groups and clusters bound to the cluster potential, making up a significant fraction of the cluster mass. The ICL formation and evolution is strongly linked to the brightest cluster

Thriving or surviving? A latent profile analysis of resilience, psychological wellbeing and professional quality of life in early‐career veterinarians in Canada

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Various adverse mental health outcomes (e.g., burnout) have been reported and shown to impact the longevity of veterinarians’ careers, especially during the early career. Both compassion fatigue (CF) and compassion satisfaction (CS) are significant predictors of burnout.

Punchline with(out) purpose: Integrating research on instructional humour and seductive details

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction We integrated research on instructional humour and seductive details to investigate when affiliative course‐related humour is effective or rather ineffective for learning. We assumed that instructional humour without a cognitive function (irrelevant humour) would have detrimental effects on learning performance resembling the ...
