Journal of Child Neurology, 2013
This study aimed to investigate any differences between the motor skills and sensory processing abilities of children between the ages of 4 and 8, who do and do not have an idiopathic toe walking gait. Children in each cohort were tested with a number of norm referenced assessments. A total of 60 children participated, 30 within each cohort. Those with

Idiopathic Toe Walking: A Comparison of Treatment Methods
Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 1998Eighty children with idiopathic toe walking (ITW) were examined 2-8 years (average, 34 months) after initial presentation to compare outcomes [passive ankle dorsiflexion (DF) and parental satisfaction] after three treatment modalities: observation, cast/brace treatment, or surgical triceps surae lengthening. Overall, 32% had a family history of ITW, 28%

Differentiation of Idiopathic Toe-Walking and Cerebral Palsy
Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 1988Kinematic data were collected on two groups of children with diagnoses of idiopathic toe-walking and mild spastic diplegia. Although both groups lacked a heel strike at initial contact, two distinct gait patterns were found. The toe-walkers displayed a variable pattern of ankle motion with moderate to severe plantarflexion at stance. The cerebral palsy

Reliability and Validity of the 50-ft Walk Test for Idiopathic Toe Walking
Pediatric Physical Therapy, 2017Purpose: To evaluate interrater reliability and concurrent validity of the 50-ft walk test (FWT) for children with idiopathic toe walking (ITW). Methods: Thirty children, 6 to 13 years old, with ITW participated. During the 50-FWT, an accelerometer counted total steps.
