Data are presented for the hydrolytic degradation of idoxuridine (5-iodo-2′-deoxyuridine) in aqueous solution over a wide range of hydrogen ion concentration (pH 1.3 to 12.0). The over-all reaction rate was experimentally equal to k 1 [ H + ] [ H + ] + K a + k 2 K a K a + [ H + ] + k 3 K ...

Idoxuridine—A Preliminary Report
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1964Data are presented to show that the principal decomposition products of idoxuridine ophthalmic solution in acidic media (pH 1.3 to 6.7) are 5-iodouracil and 2-deoxyribose. A trace of 2′-deoxyuridine was also detected. Uracil was not formed under the conditions of these experiments.

Idoxuridine and Bacterial Corneal Infection
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1979Corneas of 20 rabbits were treated with idoxuridine or a bland ointment before and after their inoculation with Staphylococcus aureus. The rabbit corneas treated with idoxuridine had a significantly more severe keratitis and yielded significantly greater numbers of S. aureus on culture than the rabbit corneas treated with the bland ointment.

Idoxuridine in Herpesvirus Encephalitis
New England Journal of Medicine, 1970Although great strides have been made in the development of virus vaccines against some of the major epidemic diseases of man, disappointingly little has been accomplished in the development of ant...
