Dendritic Cell Autophagy Contributes to Herpes Simplex Virus-Driven Stromal Keratitis and Immunopathology

open access: yesmBio, 2015
Herpetic stromal keratitis (HSK) is a blinding ocular disease that is initiated by HSV-1 and characterized by chronic inflammation in the cornea. Although HSK immunopathology of the cornea is well documented in animal models, events preceding this ...

Varicella-Zoster Virus and the Eye: Clinical Spectrum, Management, and Vaccination [PDF]

open access: yesPathogens
Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV) is one of the most important pathogens in ophthalmology. Reactivation may involve the adnexa (blepharoconjunctivitis, pseudomembranous conjunctivitis), cornea (dendritic keratitis, nummular and necrotizing stromal keratitis ...

Herpes Zoster Dendritic Keratitis

open access: yesArchives of Ophthalmology, 1973
Three cases of herpes zoster ophthalmicus characterized by classical dendritic keratitis are reported. Careful scraping and culture of just the epithelial cells involved in the corneal lesions revealed that the etiological agent was herpes zoster virus and not herpes simplex as had commonly been believed.

Fractal Properties of Herpes Simplex Dendritic Keratitis

open access: yesCornea, 1992
Fractal geometry can be used to analyze the complexity and self-similarity of many natural forms and structures. By using three techniques for fractal dimension estimation, a group of 11 herpes simplex virus dendritic corneal ulcers was analyzed and found to possess outlines with fractal properties.
