Reengineering of IEC 61131 into IEC 61499 Function Blocks
2010 8th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics, 2010In order for industrial automation manufacturers to remain competitive, they must utilise modern design approaches. Existing approaches using IEC 61131 languages are not object oriented and are difficult to reconfigure for other applications. IEC 61499 is an open standard aimed at replacing IEC 61131, adding modern design features and hardware ...

Behavioral type-based monitoring for IEC 61499
2015 IEEE 20th Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA), 2015We present work on extending IEC 61499 with behavioral types-based specifications. Identifying components and establishing interface specifications is already a key concept of IEC 61499. Components and their interfaces are a well established concept facilitating the development, maintenance, and refactoring of software systems. Behavioral types further

Implementing IEC 61499 communication with the CIP protocol
2007 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (EFTA 2007), 2007IEC 61499 is introduced as a new standard for industrial process measurement and control system. Communication function blocks are however, only loosely defined as they are implementation dependant. This paper presents the definition of communication function blocks for the CIP protocol which is a well established standard in industry and describes a ...

IEC 61499 in Factory Automation
2007The International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) has adopted the function block (FB) concept to define the IEC 61499 standard for the development of distributed industrial control applications. However, even though many researchers have been working during the last years to exploit this standard in factory automation, it is clear that the standard ...

Integrating CNet and IEC 61499 function blocks
2007 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (EFTA 2007), 2007CNet and IEC 61499 function blocks both have been defined for designing modular, concurrent and distributed control systems. CNet components as well as IEC 61499 function blocks allow modularization and hierarchization. Both concepts describe system behavior in an event-discrete manner.
