An inverse method for determining the spatially resolved properties of viscoelastic–viscoplastic three-dimensional printed materials [PDF]
A method using experimental nanoindentation and inverse finite-element analysis (FEA) has been developed that enables the spatial variation of material constitutive properties to be accurately determined. The method was used to measure property variation

Regional Stiffness and Hardening Indices: New Indicators Derived from Multidimensional Dynamic CTA for Aneurysm Risk Assessment. [PDF]
Two new indicators are derived from nonlinear stress–strain behavior obtained through in vivo biomechanical analysis of patient‐specific multidimensional dynamic computed tomography angiography. The regional stiffness index indicates the average stiffness while the hardening index reflects the pace of strain hardening.

Structural health monitoring of an offshore wind turbine tower using iFEM methodology [PDF]
With the increasing popularity of wind energy, offshore wind turbines (OWTs) are currently experiencing rapid development. The tower is one of the most significant components of the OWT. However, the tower will not only stand its own weight and weight of the top structure, but also be surrounded by harsh wave and wind loading conditions.

Displacement and stress monitoring of a chemical tanker based on inverse finite element method [PDF]
Real-time reconstruction of full field structural displacements, strains, and stresses by using surface strain measurements obtained from on-board strain sensors is commonly referred to as shape- and stress-sensing.

Shape Sensing of Beam-Like Structures Using the Robust iFEM-iQS4 Inverse Shell Element
The reconstruction of 2-D/3-D deformation and stress fields using a limited number of strain sensors is called "shape sensing" and it plays an important role in structural health monitoring (SHM) methods. The inverse finite element method (iFEM) is one of the best shape sensing algorithms developed based on strain data from a set of on-board/embedded ...

Immersed finite element methods for convection diffusion equations
In this work, we develop two IFEMs for convection-diffusion equations with interfaces. We first define bilinear forms by adding judiciously defined convection-related line integrals.

A piecewise linear FEM for an optimal control problem of fractional operators: error analysis on curved domains [PDF]
We propose and analyze a new discretization technique for a linear-quadratic optimal control problem involving the fractional powers of a symmetric and uniformly elliptic second oder operator; control constraints are considered.
