Ignition Delay in the Dual Fuel Engine

<div class="htmlview paragraph">TESTS HAVE been conducted on a special compression ignition research engine to investigate the effects of gaseous fuels on the ignition delay in dual fuel engines. Diesel oil, n-heptane, or cetane were used as pilot fuels, and hydrogen carbon monoxide, or methane were inducted in the intake manifold.

Shock Tube Ignition Delay Data Affected by Localized Ignition Phenomena

ABSTRACTShock tubes have conventionally been used for measuring high-temperature ignition delay times of approximately O(1 ms). In the last decade or so, the operating regime of shock tubes has been extended to lower temperatures by accessing longer observation times. Such measurements may potentially be affected by some non-ideal phenomena.

The ignition delay concept for recessed flameholders

Abstract Earlier work of Huellmantel, Ziemer and Cambel is considered in relation to tests on wake characteristics of recessed flameholders. Sodium injection was used, with propane-air. Recirculation lengths were found to be essentially constant with variations in velocity and equivalence ratio.

Shock tube ignition delay studies of endothermic fuels

Hydrocarbon fuels can be used for providing cooling for advanced aircraft engines through the medium of latent, sensible, and endothermic heat sinks. The latter are obtained by carrying out dehydrogenation reactions on the hydrocarbon fuel, thus producing molecular species different from those in the original fuel.
