Ignition delay time sensitivity in ignition quality tester (IQT) and its relation to octane sensitivity

Fuel, 2018
Cetane number (CN) is a commonly used metric to rate the ignition quality of distillate fuels. In this work, a concept of sensitivity in ignition delay time (IDT) obtained with an ignition quality tester (IQT) is proposed, which is correlated to octane ...

A MEMS glass membrane igniter for improved ignition delay and reproducibility

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2017
Abstract A MEMS igniter with improved ignition characteristics and reproducibility is described. A glass wafer was selected as the igniter material for high membrane structural stability. To improve the reproducibility of the igniter, the membrane was designed to realize a flat surface and uniform thickness, which are essential factors for ...

Shock tube ignition delay studies of endothermic fuels

Propulsion Joint Specialist Conference, 1965
Hydrocarbon fuels can be used for providing cooling for advanced aircraft engines through the medium of latent, sensible, and endothermic heat sinks. The latter are obtained by carrying out dehydrogenation reactions on the hydrocarbon fuel, thus producing molecular species different from those in the original fuel.

Ignition Delay in the Dual Fuel Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1987
<div class="htmlview paragraph">TESTS HAVE been conducted on a special compression ignition research engine to investigate the effects of gaseous fuels on the ignition delay in dual fuel engines. Diesel oil, n-heptane, or cetane were used as pilot fuels, and hydrogen carbon monoxide, or methane were inducted in the intake manifold.

Ignition Delay Time − an Important Fuel Property

Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils, 2016
The methods and equipment for determining the ignition delay time are described. The results of comparative tests of ignition delay time for petroleum and synthetic hydrocarbon fuels are reported. The role of this parameter in operating process regulation in various engines is shown.

Study of ignition delay period of n-Butanol blends with JOME and diesel under static loading conditions

Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2018
Longer ignition delay results in higher in-cylinder temperature which causes higher NOX emission. However, limited information available about ignition delay and its importance.

Ignition delay of microplasmas at atmospheric pressure

2009 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science - Abstracts, 2009
Micarowave field breakdown conditions in gases are important whenever using plasma in pulsed mode. The plasma properties during the steady state regime are different from those during the ignition time.
