Ignition energy effect on detonation initiation by single and two successive ignitions

open access: yesThermal Science, 2020
In order to investigate the influence of two successive ignitions on the detonation initiation characteristics, the processes of detonation initiation by one ignition and two successive ignitions with different ignition energy and ignition time interval were simulated numerically. Stoichiometric propane-air mixture was used as the fuel-oxidizer.

Local Ignition in Carbon/Oxygen White Dwarfs -- I: One-zone Ignition and Spherical Shock Ignition of Detonations

open access: yes, 2005
The details of ignition of Type Ia supernovae remain fuzzy, despite the importance of this input for any large-scale model of the final explosion. Here, we begin a process of understanding the ignition of these hotspots by examining the burning of one ...

CypD Dependent mPTP Opening Is Crucial for Oxidized Mitochondrial DNA Release in Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ferroptosis is driven by mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) opening, which induces mitochondrial swelling and releases oxidized mitochondrial DNA. The released mtDNA activates cGAS–STING signaling, promotes ferritinophagy, and amplifies ferroptotic cell death. Disruption of mtDNA repair sensitizes tumors to ferroptosis in vivo, revealing

Technical evaluation of vehicle ignition systems: conduct differences between a high energy capacitive system and a standard inductive system

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2014
An efficient combustion depends on many factors, such as injection, turbulence and ignition characteristics. With the improvement of internal combustion engines the turbulence intensity and internal pressure have risen, demanding more efficient and ...

An Artificial Antibody‐Based Toolbox Accelerates Validation of Hidden Microproteins Encoded by the Dark Genome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microproteins are hidden treasures encoded by the “dark proteome” but remain largely underexplored due to the lack of highly efficient tools. We developed a molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs)‐based toolbox (CLAIMID) to achieve accelerated and ultrasensitive microproteins validation at multiple biological scales (single living cells, cell populations,

Fast-ignition design transport studies: realistic electron source, integrated PIC-hydrodynamics, imposed magnetic fields

open access: yes, 2012
Transport modeling of idealized, cone-guided fast ignition targets indicates the severe challenge posed by fast-electron source divergence. The hybrid particle-in-cell [PIC] code Zuma is run in tandem with the radiation-hydrodynamics code Hydra to model ...

Delivery of Pleckstrin‐Homology Domains Suppresses PI3K/Akt Signaling and Breast Cancer Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current therapies curb tumor growth but not metastasis. Obscurin, a giant metastasis suppressor lost in breast cancer, restrains PI3K/Akt signaling but is impractical to restore. We deploy a mini‐obscurin, comprising the obscurin‐PH‐domain, which sequesters PI3K‐p85, potently suppressing invasion and metastasis.
