Electrified Dynamically Responsive Ammonia Decomposition to Hydrogen Based on Magnetic Heating of a Ru Nanocatalyst

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
Almost instantaneous decomposition of ammonia to hydrogen and nitrogen is achieved by magnetic heating of the catalyst. The dynamically fast response of the reactor enables the utilization of intermittent, renewable electrical energy for the on‐demand release of hydrogen, an important energy vector.

Electrocatalytic Ammonia Oxidation Reaction: Selective Formation of Nitrite and Nitrate as Value‐Added Products

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
Ammonia (NH3) is an important hydrogen carrier with applications in energy and chemical production. This review highlights NH3 electrooxidation strategies, including fuel cells, wastewater treatment, and electrolyzers for nitrite (NO2−) and nitrate (NO3−) production as an alternative to the Ostwald process.

Rethinking Chlorine: Essential Chemical or Replaceable Risk?

open access: yesChemSusChem, Accepted Article.
This review critically examines the dual nature of chlorine as both an indispensable base chemical and a potential risk. Chlorine and its by‐product hydrogen chloride play essential roles in the production of pharmaceuticals, plastics, agrochemicals, and disinfectants.
