Ignition of a rectangular solid by an external heat flux

open access: yes, 1994
The influence of corners on the ignition of a solid exposed to a surface energy flux is analyzed with large activation energy asymptotics. We begin with the analysis of the ignition of semi-infinite wedges by a constant heat flux.

Investigation of performance and characteristics of a multi-cylinder gasoline engine with controlled auto-ignition combustion in naturally aspirated and boosted operation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and was awarded by Brunel University.Controlled Auto-Ignition (CAI) also known as Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) is increasingly seen as a very effective way of lowering ...

Flexoelectricity in Photoconversion: Fundamentals, Materials, and Outlooks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical bending of a flexible cantilever induces a strain gradient in the photoactive material. The resulting flexoelectric field couples with photovoltaic and photoconductive effects, modulating charge generation, separation, and collection. A comparative analysis of oxide perovskites, halide perovskites, and two‐dimensional materials is presented,

Flame‐Retardant Quasi‐Solid‐State Electrolytes From Self‐Assembled Azolate Hybrid Frameworks for Highly Safe Lithium Batteries

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This work develops a spray‐assisted in situ assembly technique to construct AHF materials with nitrogen/oxygen‐regulated one‐dimensional channels on glass fiber, providing abundant active sites and enabling rapid transport for lithium ions. Subsequently, phosphate flame retardants are encapsulated via in situ polymerization, resulting in a thermally ...

Research on Arc Ignition Characteristics of Cables’ Insulation Under Different Temperatures Considering Thickness

open access: yesIET Science, Measurement & Technology
Internal arc faults in cables are a significant cause of cable fires, with the cable temperature being time‐dependent due to varying loading levels.

Evolution of Hydrocarbons Ignition Delay Time Over HTAC (High Temperature Air Combustion) Conditions

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2011
In this investigation, ignition processes of the methane and the propane using a high-temperature oxidizer (Toxi > Tai) with a varying oxygen concentration zO2 - the HTAC (High Temperature Air Combustion) conditions, applying a constant-volume bomb (CVB)

Numerical Study on Spark Ignition Characteristics of Methane-air Mixture Using Detailed Chemical Kinetics : Effect of Electrode Temperature and Energy Channel Length on Flame Propagation and Relationship between Minimum Ignition Energy and Equivalence Ratio [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Involving complicated physical and chemical processes, spark ignition is considered one of the most difficult and complex problems, and it has not yet been explained sufficiently.

Field‐Frustrated Cooperative Distortions: Suppressing Jahn‐Teller Ordering via Microwave Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microwave annealing decouples local Jahn‐Teller distortions from long‐range cooperative ordering in CuFe2O4, stabilizing a metastable cubic phase that remains locally distorted yet globally symmetry‐frustrated. Synchrotron XRD, PDF, XPS, and in situ thermal cycling reveal how non‐equilibrium MW‐phonon interactions suppress cooperative orbital‐lattice ...

CO2‐Induced Reverse Lattice Oxygen Spillover on Pt/CeO2 Enables Sulfur‐Resistant Dry Reforming of Methane

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A critical step, dry reforming of methane (DRM) converts biogas into useful syngas. Yet trace H2S in biogas rapidly poisons DRM catalysts, limiting practical use. We developed a robust Pt/CeO2 catalyst sustaining DRM activity via CO2‐induced reverse lattice oxygen spillover in H2S‐rich environments.
