Ignorance is Bliss: An Experimental Study of the Use of Ambiguity and Vagueness in the Coordination Games with Asymmetric Payoffs [PDF]
We consider a game where one player, the Announcer, has to communicate the value of a payoff relevant state of the world to a set of players who play a coordination game with multiple equilibria.

Flexoelectrically Induced Polar Topology in Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes
Twisted SrTiO3 bilayers host polar vortices of flexoelectric origin, revealed through combined experiment and theory. By reconstructing polarization from the toroidal moment of strain gradients, the work establishes a 3D chiral state with broken inversion and mirror symmetries.

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

Long Term Conditions (LTCs) are increasing in prevalence and cost in Western healthcare. Patients with such conditions are often classed as “disabled”, because of impacts of self-care on “activities of daily life” or secondary consequences of conditions (

Exploring the Notion of Forgetting
Ignorance and forgetting are similar in some regards, as both involve a state of not knowing. Often forgetting, like ignorance, can put us at a disadvantage in regards to a lack of retaining knowledge. Forgetting can lead to ignorance if not realized and

Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...

Extending the relational model with uncertainty and ignorance [PDF]
It has been widely recognized that in many real-life database applications there is growing demand to model uncertainty and ignorance. However the relational model does not provide this possibility.

An intentionally added, chemically formed LixAlSy coating stabilizes the lithium–electrolyte interface in solid‐state Li–S batteries. The layer suppresses side reactions, preserves smooth charge transfer, and improves ion transport from the start. This approach offers a practical route to more durable solid‐state batteries and a clearer understanding ...

This introduction discusses each element of the central theme of this special issue “mapping / uncertain / knowledge.” It claims a place for uncertainty in (between) histories of knowledge and ignorance.
