ABSTRACT In multi‐state models based on high‐dimensional data, effective modeling strategies are required to determine an optimal, ideally parsimonious model. In particular, linking covariate effects across transitions is needed to conduct joint variable selection.

Risk Factors Associated with Cognitive Decline after Cardiac Surgery: A Systematic Review
Modern day cardiac surgery evolved upon the advent of cardiopulmonary bypass machines (CPB) in the 1950s. Following this development, cardiac surgery in recent years has improved significantly. Despite such advances and the introduction of new technologies, neurological sequelae after cardiac surgery still exist.

Biomechanics of Disc Degeneration
Disc degeneration and associated disorders are among the most debated topics in the orthopedic literature over the past few decades. These may be attributed to interrelated mechanical, biochemical, and environmental factors. The treatment options vary from conservative approaches to surgery, depending on the severity of degeneration and response to ...

The three-nucleon bound state using realistic potential models
The bound states of $^3$H and $^3$He have been calculated using the Argonne $v_{18}$ plus the Urbana three-nucleon potential. The isospin $T=3/2$ state have been included in the calculations as well as the $n$-$p$ mass difference.

Abstract In ecology and evolution, meta‐analysis is an important tool to synthesise findings across separate studies and identify sources of heterogeneity. However, ecological and evolutionary data often exhibit complex dependence structures, such as shared sources of variation within studies, phylogenetic relationships and hierarchical sampling ...

Pathophysiological Implications of Different Bicuspid Aortic Valve Configurations
There are numerous types of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) configurations. Recent findings suggest that various BAV types represent different pathophysiological substrates on the aortic media level. Data imply that the BAV type is probably not related to location and extent of the aneurysm.

The reaction 2H(p,pp)n in three kinematical configurations at E_p = 16 MeV
We measured the cross sections of the $^2$H(p,pp)n breakup reaction at E$_p$=16 MeV in three kinematical configurations: the np final-state interaction (FSI), the co-planar star (CST), and an intermediate-star (IST) geometry.

Is European Inter Regionalism a Relevant Approach for the World or Just for Europe? Jean Monnet/Robert Schuman Paper Series Vol. 7 No. 14 September 2007 [PDF]
[Introduction]. Most of the literature on inter regionalism seems to accept that, as a region, the European Union (EU) stimulates interregional cooperation in such a way that it may be responsible for adding a new category of relevant actors to world ...

Regularity results for local minimizers of energies with general densities having superquadratic growth [PDF]
We consider variational integrals whose energy densities are represented by N-functions h of at least quadratic growth. Under rather general conditions on h almost everywhere regularity of vector-valued local minimizers is established, and it is possible
