Outcome of Transfibular Ankle Arthrodesis with Ilizarov Apparatus [PDF]

open access: yesFoot and Ankle International, 2012
Background: Both transfibular ankle arthrodesis with fibular onlay grafting and ankle arthrodesis using the Ilizarov apparatus have resulted in acceptable fusion rates. This study analyzed outcomes in the authors' practice for all patients who underwent transfibular ankle arthrodesis with fibular onlay grafting using the Ilizarov apparatus.

The Ilizarov Apparatus for Treatment of Melorheostosis

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1992
Traditional conservative and surgical methods of treatment of melorheostosis, such as manipulations, plaster casts, soft-tissue releases, capsulotomies, and osteotomies cause a high recurrence rate. In a 12-year-old girl, flexion contracture of a knee with limb inequality caused by melorheostosis was corrected successfully with the Ilizarov distraction

Correcting Torsional Deformities With Ilizarov??s Apparatus

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1994
Patients undergoing limb lengthening with circular fixators often have rotational deformities requiring correction as well. At the end of lengthening, special rotation constructs are added to the Ilizarov frame to correct the rotational deformity.

Ankle arthrodesis combined with tibial lengthening using the Ilizarov apparatus

Journal of Orthopaedic Science, 2003
We report our experience using the Ilizarov method to perform combined ankle arthrodesis and tibial lengthening in six patients (mean age 47 years; range 25-66 years). The average distraction length was 4.1 cm (range 1.1-6.8 cm), and the mean period of follow-up was 36 months (range 26-44 months). Three patients had active infection of the ankle.
