Characterisation of the key odorants in a squid broth (Illex argentinus)

open access: yesLWT - Food Science and Technology, 2014
Abstract The characteristic flavour of cooked squid has been studied by gas chromatography–olfactometry (GC–O) and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) in order to identify and quantify the compounds responsible for this aroma. Squid meat ( Illex argentinus ) was boiled in water and the volatile compounds of this soup were isolated with ...

Using interviews as complementary source of information on Marine Ecology research: the study about the location of the spawning grounds of Illex argentinus (Cephalopoda: Ommastrephidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
La entrevista es un método poco empleado en los trabajos de investigación en ecología. La aplicación de esta técnica en el presente trabajo permitió descubrir que ejemplares adultos de Illex argentinus estuvieron presentes en las aguas del golfo Nuevo ...

Insights Into the Feeding Ecology of Young‐of‐the‐Year Bigeye Tuna (Thunnus obesus) in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, Volume 34, Issue 5, Page 121-127, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) is among the most prized tuna species sustaining fisheries worldwide. However, information on the feeding habits for the species is mostly restricted to the size range harvested by commercial fisheries. In this study, we report the diet composition of juvenile bigeye tuna schooling near the surface at night in the ...

ALIMENTACION DEL CALAMAR ILLEX ARGENTINUS (CEPHALOPODA, OMMASTREPHIDAE) EN LA ZONA COMUN DE PESCA ARGENTINO-URUGUAYA FEEDING OF THE SQUID ILLEX ARGENTINUS (CEPHALOPODA, OMMASTREPHIDAE) IN THE ARGENTINE-URUGUAYAN COMMON FISHING ZONE

open access: yesGayana, 2001

C19 | Assessment of the effect of two thawing methods on the shelf life of cephalopod molluscs

open access: yesItalian Journal of Food Safety
Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of two thawing techniques, one slow (performed in a refrigerated chamber at 0-4°C for 24 hours) and one rapid (performed with a water thawing machine at

Using Stable Isotopes to Assign Origin of White‐Chinned Petrels Killed by Longline Fisheries

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 35, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Incidental capture (bycatch) of seabirds in longline and trawl fisheries is one of the main threats to many albatrosses and large petrels. The White‐chinned Petrel (Procellaria aequinoctialis) has a circumpolar distribution and is the seabird species killed most frequently by fisheries in the Southern Ocean.

Linking Water to the Bottom: eDNA Study of Benthic Invertebrates and Invasive Species in the Venice Lagoon

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
This study used environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding of superficial water samples to assess benthic invertebrate biodiversity in the Venice Lagoon. Sampling from surface water revealed 80 taxonomic units, mostly benthic species, including several invasive ones, with significant spatial and seasonal variations in community composition.

Links between marine fauna and oceanic fronts on the Patagonian Shelf and Slope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
One of the main oceanographic features in the Southwest Atlantic is the transport of cold waters of Sub-Antarctic origin along the Patagonian slope to temperate latitudes (40-42ºS) by the Falkland Current.

Enhancing Survival Rates of Cirrhitichthys falco Larvae Through the Inorganic Fertilization Method

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Aquaculture techniques for marine ornamental fish have advanced rapidly but remain in their early stages, with challenges in providing suitable food for larvae. This study investigated using inorganic fertilization to raise Cirrhitichthys falco larvae. The fertilized group (F group) received inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus (N: 700 µg L−1, P: 100 µg L−

Environmental influences on commercial oceanic ommastrephid squids: a stock assessment perspective

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2017
Ommastrephid squids are short-lived ecological opportunists and their recruitment is largely driven by the surrounding environment. While recent studies suggest that recruitment variability in several squid species can be partially explained by ...
