Effect of wet grinding on carbothermic reduction of ilmenite concentrate
International Journal of Mineral Processing, 2015Abstract High titania slag has become a good raw material in the development of titanium. Ilmenite is reduced first and then smelted in an electric arc furnace to separate iron from the high titania slag. Therefore, enhanced reduction of ilmenite concentrate can reduce smelting time and energy consumption.

Effect of preoxidation on the reduction of ilmenite concentrate powder by hydrogen
International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2019Abstract In this study, hydrogen reduction of raw and preoxidized ilmenite concentrates powder, with particle size less than 74 μm, is investigated using a thermal analyzer at 1123, 1173, and 1223 K in a 30% H2 + 70% Ar atmosphere. The reduction rate by hydrogen was found to be accelerated due to preoxidation treatment of the raw ilmenite concentrate.

The dissolution of iron in the hydrochloric acid leach of an ilmenite concentrate
Hydrometallurgy, 1999Abstract Hydrochloric acid leach processes for upgrading ilmenite to synthetic rutile are being considered for use with the Australian ilmenite concentrates that cannot be treated by the commonly used Becher process. These acid leach processes consist of a pre-leach thermal treatment, a hydrochloric acid leach that extracts iron from the concentrate,

Comprehensive utilization of Panzhihua ilmenite concentrate by vacuum carbothermic reduction
Vacuum, 2016Abstract An electric arc furnace is mainly employed to produce high titania slag, although impurities could not be removed through this process, making the production of titania pigment through chlorination difficult. Removal of impurities is crucial to fully utilize low-grade ilmenite, especially the Panzhihua ilmenite concentrate obtained in China.
