SHS/PHIP of ceramic composites using ilmenite concentrate

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2010
Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) process in the mixture of ilmenite, boron carbide and aluminum combined with a pseudo hot isostatic pressing (PHIP) is used in this research to produce a compact multi-ceramic composite Al2O3/TiB2/TiC with Fe as a binder. Several tests were performed to identify the optimum partial weight percent of the

The dissolution of iron in the hydrochloric acid leach of an ilmenite concentrate

Hydrometallurgy, 1999
Abstract Hydrochloric acid leach processes for upgrading ilmenite to synthetic rutile are being considered for use with the Australian ilmenite concentrates that cannot be treated by the commonly used Becher process. These acid leach processes consist of a pre-leach thermal treatment, a hydrochloric acid leach that extracts iron from the concentrate,

Reduction of Ilmenite Concentrates By Methanecontaining Gas: Part I. Effects of Ilmenite Composition, Temperature and Gas Composition

Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 2001
AbstractReduction of ilmenite concentrates by CH4-H2-Ar gas mixtures was investigated in a laboratory fixed bed reactor in the temperature range of 850-1350 °C. Three ilmenite concentrates with different concentrations of TiO2 (55.6-71.5wt%) and iron oxides (Fetotal 14.5-28.2wt%) were examined. In the temperature range under investigation, iron oxides ...

Comprehensive utilization of Panzhihua ilmenite concentrate by vacuum carbothermic reduction

Vacuum, 2016
Abstract An electric arc furnace is mainly employed to produce high titania slag, although impurities could not be removed through this process, making the production of titania pigment through chlorination difficult. Removal of impurities is crucial to fully utilize low-grade ilmenite, especially the Panzhihua ilmenite concentrate obtained in China.

Silicon and aluminum removal from ilmenite concentrates by alkaline leaching

Hydrometallurgy, 2009
Abstract In this paper, a hydrometallurgical process for the treatment of ilmenite concentrates is developed, in order to reduce the silicon content to the maximum allowed value for the production of “grade B” ferrotitanium. The process was based on pressure leaching with sodium hydroxide and the effect of the main leaching parameters, namely the ...

Assessment of the technological possibility of joint processing of ilmenite and perovskite concentrates

Izvestiya. Ferrous Metallurgy
An urgent task facing the modern metallurgical industry is to increase the complexity of using mineral and technogenic raw materials by developing new technologies based on the principle of joint processing of raw materials from deposits that differ in the mineral composition of the ore component, for example, titanium-containing ores – ilmenite and ...

Energy consumption in the selective reduction of iron from ilmenite concentrate

Ferrous Metallurgy. Bulletin of Scientific , Technical and Economic Information
The main pyrometallurgical methods are single–stage electric melting and a two-stage method according to the “tubular furnace – melting unit” scheme. Both processing schemes involve the use of carbon as a reducing agent, which in turn leads to the formation of iron metal products and titanium oxide concentrate based on anosovite – Ti3O5.
