Invisible but not inaccessible—Revealing transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins with solution NMR and complementary methods

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins may be ‘invisible’ to direct detection yet remain accessible to solution NMR through equilibrium‐exchange measurements and pressure‐jump experiments. Complementary methods report on mass, stoichiometry, selected distance distributions, morphology, and internal packing.

Self-Supervised Dense Consistency Regularization for Image-to-Image Translation

open access: yes, 2022
Unsupervised image-to-image translation has gained considerable attention due to recent impressive advances in generative adversarial networks (GANs). This paper presents a simple but effective regularization technique for improving GAN-based image-to ...

Going viral − Virus‐targeting nanobodies for research, diagnostics and therapy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The increasing prevalence of viral diseases represents a major threat for global human health. Nanobodies, small binding fragments derived from camelid heavy‐chain antibodies, offer versatile tools for viral research, diagnostics, and antiviral therapy.

Image-to-image translation based on generative models

open access: yes, 2021
Image-to-image translation tasks have become a widely studied topic in computer vision. Image-to-image translation aims at finding a model that is fed with the input image and generating desired output image correspondingly.

Adaptive Classifier-Free Guidance for Robust Image-to-Image Translation

open access: yesIEEE Access
Text-guided image-to-image translation aims to edit a source image according to a textual prompt while preserving its structure. However, existing approaches often rely on a fixed classifier-free guidance scale and a single prompt input, leading to ...

A Novel BiLevel Paradigm for Image-to-Image Translation

open access: yesCoRR, 2019
Image-to-image (I2I) translation is a pixel-level mapping that requires a large number of paired training data and often suffers from the problems of high diversity and strong category bias in image scenes. In order to tackle these problems, we propose a novel BiLevel (BiL) learning paradigm that alternates the learning of two models, respectively at ...

Unlocking the potential of cell‐permeable nanobodies for intracellular applications

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review outlines current strategies for delivery of nanobodies into cells and highlights recent examples of functional applications. By addressing and manipulating intracellular targets, these molecules hold great potential for treating cancer, respiratory diseases and neurological disorders, making this a vibrant area of research in the biomedical

Retrieval Guided Unsupervised Multi-domain Image to Image Translation

open access: yes, 2020
Image to image translation aims to learn a mapping that transforms an image from one visual domain to another. Recent works assume that images descriptors can be disentangled into a domain-invariant content representation and a domain-specific style ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Masked Style Transfer for Source-Coherent Image-to-Image Translation

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The goal of image-to-image translation (I2I) is to translate images from one domain to another while maintaining the content representations. A popular method for I2I translation involves the use of a reference image to guide the transformation process ...
