Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Adherence to Protocol Recommendations for Children With Wilms Tumour in Two Consecutive Studies in the United Kingdom and Ireland—Does Variation Matter?

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Wilms tumour (WT) has excellent event‐free and overall survival (OS). However, small differences exist between countries participating in the same international study. This led us to examine variation in adherence to protocol recommendations as a potential contributing factor.

Financial Burden Associated With Hospitalisation Among Families of Childhood Brain Tumours in Australia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Families of children with cancer experience significant financial strain, even with universal healthcare. Indirect costs, such as productivity losses and non‐medical expenses, are rarely included in economic evaluations, and little is known about how effectively financial aid programmes alleviate this burden. Childhood brain tumours

AI-based CT assessment of 3117 vertebrae reveals significant sex-specific vertebral height differences

open access: yesScientific Reports
Predicting vertebral height is complex due to individual factors. AI-based medical imaging analysis offers new opportunities for vertebral assessment. Thereby, these novel methods may contribute to sex-adapted nomograms and vertebral height prediction ...

Limits of applicability of the Voronoi tessellation determined by centers of cell nuclei to epithelium morphology

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2016
It is well accepted that cells in the tissue can be regarded as tiles tessellating space. A number of approaches were developed to find an appropriate mathematical description of such cell tiling.

Enhancing deep learning methods for brain metastasis detection through cross-technique annotations on SPACE MRI

open access: yesEuropean Radiology Experimental
Background Gadolinium-enhanced “sampling perfection with application-optimized contrasts using different flip angle evolution” (SPACE) sequence allows better visualization of brain metastases (BMs) compared to “magnetization-prepared rapid acquisition ...

Near-Infrared Fluorescent Digital Pathology for the Automation of Disease Diagnosis and Biomarker Assessment

open access: yesMolecular Imaging, 2015
Hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining of tissue has been the mainstay of pathology for more than a century. However, the learning curve for H&E tissue interpretation is long, whereas intra- and interobserver variability remain high.
