Evaluating the interpretability of prototype networks for medical image analysis

open access: yesMedical Imaging 2025: Image Processing
Artificial intelligence (AI) holds great potential for assisting physicians in medical image analysis, yet current models provide predictions without transparent explanations of their decision-making process. Explainable AI (XAI) aims to address this issue by providing tools to enhance model interpretability. However, existing XAI methods, such as post-

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

APPLICATION OF TEXTURE ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES TO NMR IMAGES FOR QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF MUSCLE DISORDERS

open access: yesInformatika, 2016
Results on development of the basic concept of the medical image analysis methodology are presented. The techniques used in the research are based on adaptation and utilization of the gene-ralized image features for quantitative interpretation of muscles

An Exploratory Study on Imaging Resolution, Operational Parameters, and Measurement Uncertainty in UAV-Based Crack Inspection

open access: yesSensors
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly used for crack inspection of civil infrastructure. However, crack interpretation from UAV imagery is constrained by trade-offs among imaging resolution, operational efficiency, and measurement uncertainty.

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Image Interpretation: Exploiting Multiple Cues

open access: yes, 1995
Multiple cues play a crucial role in image interpretation. A vision system that combines shape, colour, motion, prior scene knowledge and object motion behaviour is described.

DINOv2 rocks geological image analysis: Classification, segmentation, and interpretability

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
Recent advancements in computer vision have significantly improved image analysis tasks. Yet, deep learning models often struggle when applied to domains outside their training distribution, such as in geosciences, where domain-specific data can be scarce.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

High resolution sar image analysis by combining the pca and the azimuth sub-band decompositions

open access: yes, 2009
With the increase of the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sen- sor resolution, a more detailed analysis and a ¯ner description of SAR images are needed.
