Borehole Image Log Technology

2010
Abstract The ever-increasing energy demand requires recovery from existing fields to be maximized, a process mostly dependent on accurate reservoir models. Borehole imaging is one of the fastest and most precise methods for collecting subsurface data ( Figure 1).

Making Interpretable Images from Image Logs

2010
Abstract Generating a borehole image from the original measurements of rock properties involves a series of steps. The purpose of this chapter is to explain these steps systematically. For wireline (WL)-based imaging instruments, the measurements may come from sensors placed at different depths and orientations at the borehole imaging

Log-polar and polar image for recognition targets

2010 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2010
We describe in this paper, data processing algorithms applied on radar image in order to extract feature descriptors and then to perform recognition task. Several kinds of descriptors can be used to acquire information about target characteristics from radar images such as ISAR (Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar) images. This paper presents two types of

Petrographic Image Logging System

AAPG Bulletin, 1991
The Petrographic Image Logging System (PILS) is a logging system data base for Macintosh computers that allows the merging of traditional wire-line, core, and mud log data with petrographic images. The system is flexible; it allows the user to record, manipulate, and display almost any type of character, graphic, and image information.

Log-Domain Binary SVM Image Classifier

2008
We propose in this paper a binary log-domain Support Vector Machine classifier based on a polynomial decision function. To implement such a classifier log-domain multipliers proposed by the authors are used. For the parallel-serial implementation a log-domain summing amplifier and a current mode comparator are also needed.

Gradient detection in discrete log-polar images

Pattern Recognition Letters, 2003
In a continuous sense, images and gradient operators can be mapped conformally between Cartesian and log-polar (LP) space and the process of gradient detection can be shown to be equivalent. However, gains in the efficiency of processing LP and other retino-cortical image mappings rely on variable sampling with a high resolution fovea and much lower ...

Boost image clustering with user query log

2008 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, 2008
Image clustering is to derive a salient grouping of images such that similar ones are placed in the same cluster, which is useful in many applications. In this paper, we propose a constrained clustering algorithm, which leverages the collected user query log to guide the clustering process.

Egomotion estimation using log-polar images

Sixth International Conference on Computer Vision (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36271), 2002
We address the problem of egomotion estimation of a monocular observer moving with arbitrary translation and rotation in an unknown environment, using log-polar images. The method we propose is uniquely based on the spatio-temporal image derivatives, or the normal flow.

Vergence and tracking fusing log-polar images

Proceedings of 13th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 1996
Vergence provides robot vision systems with a crucial degree of freedom: it enables fixation of points in visual space at different distances from the observer. Moreover, the control of vergence definitely influences the degree of binocular fusion in an active vision system.
