Lossy compression of palletized images
IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing, 1993The authors present an algorithm for lossy compression of palletized images which uses standard compression techniques (JPEG, or Joint Photographic Experts Group, and JBIG), and produces a palletized image at the decoder. The technique is applicable to both custom and universal palletized images, and achieves good decompressed image quality at bit ...

Lossy compression of noisy images
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 1998Noise degrades the performance of any image compression algorithm. This paper studies the effect of noise on lossy image compression. The effect of Gaussian, Poisson, and film-grain noise on compression is studied. To reduce the effect of the noise on compression, the distortion is measured with respect to the original image not to the input of the ...

Lossy compression of sparse histogram image
2012 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2012In this paper, a lossy data compression for a sparse histogram image signal is proposed. It is extended from an existing lossless coding which is based on a lossless histogram packing and a lossless coding. We introduce a lossy mapping, which has less computational load than the rate-distortion optimized Lloyd-Max quantization, and combine it with a ...

Restoration of lossy compressed noisy images
1996 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems. Circuits and Systems Connecting the World. ISCAS 96, 1999Noise degrades the performance of any image compression algorithm. However, at very low bit rates, image coders effectively filter noise that may he present in the image, thus, enabling the coder to operate closer to the noise free case. Unfortunately, at these low bit rates the quality of the compressed image is reduced and very distinctive coding ...

MST for Lossy Compression of Image Sets
Data Compression Conference (DCC'06), 2006Summary form only given. This paper presents an algorithm for organizing and compressing groups of similar images using a minimum spanning tree (MST). Called IsMST, it supports content based image retrieval (CBIR) and facilitates better compression performance that is attained using JPEG2000 on each image individually.

Lossy Image Compression Using Wavelets
Journal of Intelligent and Robotic Systems, 2000In this paper, we report the results of the application of transform coding image data compression techniques using Daubechies and Coifman wavelets. More specifically, D2, D4, D8, D16, and C6, C12 wavelets were used. The results from these wavelets were compared with those of discrete cosine transform.

Lossy compression of Landsat multispectral images
2016 5th Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing (MECO), 2016We consider practical aspects of lossy compression with application to multispectral images provided by Landsat sensor. Two facts are taken into account: 1) the inherent noise presence and its properties; 2) rather high degree of component correlation. These properties in different degree are used in 2D and 3D lossy compression.

Lossy Image Compression Using a GHSOM
2011A new approach for image compression based on the GHSOM model has been proposed in this paper. The SOM has some problems related to its fixed topology and its lack of representation of hierarchical relations among input data. The GHSOM solves these limitations by generating a hierarchical architecture that is automatically determined according to the ...

Restoration of lossy compressed astronomical images
Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2002Astronomical images currently provide large amounts of data. Lossy compression algorithms have recently been developed for high compression ratios. These compression techniques introduce distortion in the compressed images and for high compression ratios, a blocking effect appears.

Lossy Compression of Images with Additive Noise
2005Lossy compression of noise-free and noisy images differs from each other. While in the first case image quality is decreasing with an increase of compression ratio, in the second case coding image quality evaluated with respect to a noise-free image can be improved for some range of compression ratios.
