Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Adaptive Fingerprint Image Enhancement With Emphasis on Preprocessing of Data

open access: yes, 2013
This article proposes several improvements to an adaptive fingerprint enhancement method that is based on contextual filtering. The term adaptive implies that parameters of the method are automatically adjusted based on the input fingerprint image.

Optical classification of images at different wavelengths using spectral diffractive neural networks

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика
A solution of several different problems of image classification at several different wavelengths using a diffractive neural network (DNN) consisting of sequentially located phase diffractive optical elements (DOEs) is considered.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Porous Media Characterization by Micro-Tomographic Image Processing

open access: yes, 2011
In this thesis, we have focused our attention on the characterization of porous media through micro-tomographic image processing. A porous medium can be simply seen as a solid material with "holes" in it, which, connected or isolated, may or may not ...

Gradient method for designing cascaded DOEs focusing radiation of different wavelengths

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика
The design of cascaded diffractive optical elements (DOEs) generating several specified intensity distributions for several incident beams with different wavelengths is considered.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Region Based CNN for Foreign Object Debris Detection on Airfield Pavement

open access: yesSensors, 2018
In this paper, a novel algorithm based on convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed to detect foreign object debris (FOD) based on optical imaging sensors.
