Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Markov chain Monte Carlo for integrated face image analysis [PDF]
This PhD thesis is about the integration of different methods to fit a statistical model of human faces to a single image. I propose to take a probabilistic view on the problem and implement and evaluate an integrative framework for face image ...

Control and Synchronization of Julia Sets of the Discrete Three-Dimensional Fractional HCV Model
This paper investigates the fractal dynamical behavior of a discrete Caputo fractional-order hepatitis C virus model. First, we analyze the stability of the system by using spectral radius and design the fractional-order controller based on coordinate ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Feature learning via partial differential equation with applications to face recognition
Feature learning is a critical step in pattern recognition, such as image classification. However, most of the existing methods cannot extract features that are discriminative and at the same time invariant under some transforms.

Skin segmentation for robust face image analysis [PDF]
This thesis presents novel techniques to address the challenge of outlier detection and removal in the context of face analysis from photographs. Given a face image, under arbitrary scene conditions, our goal is to automatically compute a binary map that

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
