Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Semi-blind sparse image reconstruction with application to MRFM [PDF]
We propose a solution to the image deconvolution problem where the convolution kernel or point spread function (PSF) is assumed to be only partially known.

Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Unsupervised image segmentation combining region and boundary estimation [PDF]
An integrated approach to image segmentation is presented that combines region and boundary information using maximum a posteriori estimation and decision theory.

This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Image volume denoising using a Fourier-wavelet basis [PDF]
A novel approach to the removal of noise from threedimensional image data is described. The image sequence is represented using a non-adaptive wavelet basis, carefully chosen for its ability to compactly represent locally planar surfaces.

A Survey of Restoration and Enhancement for Underwater Images
Images captured underwater usually suffer from color distortion, detail blurring, low contrast, and a bluish or greenish tone due to light scattering and absorption in the underwater medium, which in turn the visibility is adversely affected by these ...
