Image Synthesis for Branching Structures

Computer Graphics Forum, 2010
AbstractWe present a set of techniques for the synthesis of artificial images that depict branching structures like rivers, cracks, lightning, mountain ranges, or blood vessels. The central idea is to build a statistical model that captures the characteristic bending and branching structure from example images.

Particle transport and image synthesis

ACM SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics, 1990
The rendering equation is similar to the linear Boltzmann equation which has been widely studied in physics and nuclear engineering. Consequently, many of the powerful techniques which have been developed in these fields can be applied to problems in image synthesis.

Textures for realistic image synthesis

Computers & Graphics, 1985
Abstract An important aspect in generating images of real materials and surfaces is the contribution of the visual effects of textures. This study presents methods for simulating a variety of different textures. Two general types of texture, geometric and spectral, are simulated. Geometric textures incorporate the irregularities and variations which

Systematic Sampling in Image-Synthesis

2006
In this paper we investigate systematic sampling in the image- synthesis context. Systematic sampling has been widely used in stereology to improve the efficiency of different probes in experimental design. These designs are theoretically based on estimators of 1-dimensional and 2-dimensional integrals.

IFSs and Interactive Image Synthesis

Computer Graphics Forum, 1990
AbstractDeterministic Fractal geometry provides a framework for describing both the geometry of man‐made structures and the geometry of nature.Certain deterministic Fractals which exist in the plane may be “partitioned” into a number of “tiles” equivalent to the whole under some geometric mapping.
