Performance evaluation of a novel brain-dedicated SPECT system
Background Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging is an important diagnostic tool for the early detection of the loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and similar neurodegenerative disorders ...

How local is the Phantom Force? [PDF]
The phantom force is an apparently repulsive force, which can dominate the atomic contrast of an AFM image when a tunneling current is present. We described this effect with a simple resistive model, in which the tunneling current causes a voltage drop at the sample area underneath the probe tip.

Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

Abstract Background Ultrasonography (US) and 99mTechnetium‐sestamibi scintigraphy (99mTc‐MIBI) are currently first‐line imaging modalities to localize parathyroid adenomas with sensitivities of 80% and 84%, respectively. Therefore, finding other modalities to further improve the diagnostic accuracy for preoperative localization is critically needed ...

TGF‐β has a complex role in cancer, exhibiting both tumor‐suppressive and tumor‐promoting properties. Using a series of differentiated tumoroids, derived from different stages and mutational background of colorectal cancer patients, we replicate this duality of TGF‐β in vitro. Notably, the atypical but highly aggressive KRASQ22K mutation rendered early‐

Statistical process control to monitor use of a web‐based autoplanning tool
Abstract Purpose To investigate the use of statistical process control (SPC) for quality assurance of an integrated web‐based autoplanning tool, Radiation Planning Assistant (RPA). Methods Automatically generated plans were downloaded and imported into two treatment planning systems (TPSs), RayStation and Eclipse, in which they were recalculated using ...

3D printed human skull phantoms for transcranial photoacoustic imaging [PDF]
Photoacoustic (PA) waves are strongly distorted and attenuated in skull bone. To study these effects on PA imaging, we designed and 3D-printed tissue-mimicking phantoms of human skull. We present a comparison of results in phantom and ex vivo skull.

Machine learning for automatic construction of pseudo-realistic pediatric abdominal phantoms [PDF]
Machine Learning (ML) is proving extremely beneficial in many healthcare applications. In pediatric oncology, retrospective studies that investigate the relationship between treatment and late adverse effects still rely on simple heuristics. To assess the effects of radiation therapy, treatment plans are typically simulated on phantoms, i.e., virtual ...

There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...
