Spontaneous emergence, imitation and spread of alternative foraging techniques among groups of vervet monkeys

open access: yes, 2012
Animal social learning has become a subject of broad interest, but demonstrations of bodily imitation in animals remain rare. Based on Voelkl and Huber's study of imitation by marmosets, we tested four groups of semi-captive vervet monkeys presented with

Cross-Embodiment Kinematic Behavioral Cloning (X-EKBC): An Energy-Based Framework for Human–Robot Imitation Learning with the Embodiment Gap

open access: yesMachines
In imitation learning with the embodiment gap, directly transferring human motions to robots is challenging due to differences in body structures. Therefore, it is necessary to reconstruct human motions in accordance with each robot’s embodiment.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Symbolic Imitation Learning: From Black-Box to Explainable Driving Policies

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Current imitation learning approaches, predominantly based on deep neural networks (DNNs), offer efficient mechanisms for learning driving policies from real-world datasets.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Automatic Imitation in Rhythmical Actions: Kinematic Fidelity and the Effects of Compatibility, Delay, and Visual Monitoring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We demonstrate that observation of everyday rhythmical actions biases subsequent motor execution of the same and of different actions, using a paradigm where the observed actions were irrelevant for action execution.

Implicit leadership and multidimensional imitation: a structural pathway model among Chinese university students

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
IntroductionThis study examines the association between implicit leadership perception (ILP) and social learning and imitation processes among university students in group-based educational contexts.

Permettre la compréhension de l’action dans un jeu d’imitation. Le cas de l’action conjointe entre un artiste chorégraphique et des élèves-danseurs à l’école élémentaire

open access: yesRecherches en Éducation, 2019
The central role played by imitation within the various human societies leads us to consider it from an anthropological point of view. We describe it as a complex process allowing the intergenerational transmission of cultural behaviours and elements ...
