Functional interaction of nuclear domain 10 and its components with cytomegalovirus after infections: cross-species host cells versus native cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Species-specificity is one of the major characteristics of cytomegaloviruses (CMVs) and is the primary reason for the lack of a mouse model for the direct infection of human CMV (HCMV). It has been determined that CMV cross-species infections are blocked

Herpes simplex virus ICP27 protein directly interacts with the nuclear pore complex through NUP62, inhibiting host nucleocytoplasmic transport pathways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The herpes simplex virus ICP27 protein is important for the expression and nuclear export of viral mRNAs. Although several binding sites have been mapped along the ICP27 sequence for various RNA and protein partners including the transport receptor TAP ...

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Immediate Early Genes Anchor a Biological Pathway of Proteins Required for Memory Formation, Long-Term Depression and Risk for Schizophrenia

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2018
While the causes of myriad medical and infectious illnesses have been identified, the etiologies of neuropsychiatric illnesses remain elusive. This is due to two major obstacles.

Embryonic demise caused by targeted disruption of a cysteine protease Dub-2. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BACKGROUND: A plethora of biological metabolisms are regulated by the mechanisms of ubiquitination, wherein this process is balanced with the action of deubiquitination system.

RNA-binding protein CPEB1 remodels host and viral RNA landscapes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Host and virus interactions occurring at the post-transcriptional level are critical for infection but remain poorly understood. Here, we performed comprehensive transcriptome-wide analyses revealing that human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection results in

Molecular determinants of signal transduction in tropomyosin receptor kinases

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tropomyosin receptor kinases control critical neuronal functions, but how do the same receptors produce diverse cellular responses? This review explores the structural mechanisms behind Trk signaling diversity, focusing on allosteric modulation and ligand bias.

Host immune response to cytomegalovirus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
To confirm that immediate-early (IE) genes of murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) give rise to antigens recognized by specific cytolytic T lymphocytes (CTL), a 10.8-kilobase fragment of MCMV DNA which is abundantly transcribed at IE times was transfected into ...

The role of p38 MAPK and its substrates in neuronal plasticity and neurodegenerative disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A significant amount of evidence suggests that the p38-mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signalling cascade plays a crucial role in synaptic plasticity and in neurodegenerative diseases.

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...
