Circadian dependency of nocturnal immediate-early protein induction in rat retina
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2004Daily rhythms in the mammalian retina are regulated by an endogenous circadian clock. Previously it was found that neuronal elements of the rat retina respond to light:dark (L:D) transitions with cell-specific changes in expression of the c-fos gene.

Transcription of Class III Genes Activated by Viral Immediate Early Proteins
Science, 1985The adenovirus EIA and pseudorabies virus immediate early (IE) proteins induce transcription from transfected viral and nonviral genes transcribed by RNA polymerase II (class II genes). These proteins have now been shown also to activate transcription of transfected genes transcribed by RNA polymerase III (class III genes).

Expression of depolarization‐induced immediate early gene proteins in PC12 cells
Journal of Neuroscience Research, 2003AbstractImmediate early genes induced by depolarization are thought to be important in mediating neuronal functional plasticity. We previously identified a group of immediate early genes that are preferentially induced by depolarization and forskolin but not by nerve growth factor or epidermal growth factor in PC12 pheochromocytoma cells.

Mapping of transcriptional regulatory domains of pseudorabies virus immediate-early protein
Archives of Virology, 1994The 180 kilodalton immediate-early protein (IE180) of pseudorabies virus functions as a strong transactivator of several different promoters and also as a repressor of its own transcription. To map the functional domains of IE180, we prepared various truncated mutants and analyzed their transcriptional regulatory activities using the chloramphenicol ...

The immediate-early (1E) gene of pseudorabies virus (PRV) expresses immediately upon infection, a phosphorylated protein (immediate-early protein, IE180) that can transactivate viral other genes and plays an essential role in regulating viral gene expression.

Human cytomegalovirus US3 and UL36-38 immediate-early proteins regulate gene expression
Journal of Virology, 1992We have established the ability of the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) UL36-38 and US3 immediate-early (IE) gene products to alter gene expression in human cells by using transient transfection assays. The cellular heat shock protein 70 (hsp70) promoter was transactivated following cotransfection with the HCMV IE regions in nonpermissive HeLa cells by ...

Herpes simplex virus immediate-early protein ICP4 in murine models of latency
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 1986Herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV) infection of trigeminal and dorsal root ganglia was established in mice via corneal scarification and footpad injection, respectively. Trigeminal and dorsal root ganglia were removed during the acute and latent stages of infection and processed for the immediate-early HSV polypeptide ICP4 (VP175) using both a monoclonal ...

Host cell targets of immediate-early protein BICP22 of bovine herpesvirus 1
Veterinary Microbiology, 2006The immediate-early (IE) protein BICP22 of bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) acts as transrepressor protein on viral promoters of different kinetic classes. In the present work, we looked for host cell targets of BICP22 using a yeast two-hybrid system and identified seven candidates: (1) JIK, a serine/threonine kinase of the sterile 20 protein (STE20 ...

The Host DHX29 RNA Helicase Regulates HCMV Immediate Early Protein Synthesis
AbstractThe dead box helicase DHX29 plays a critical role in the translation of mRNAs containing complex RNA secondary structure in their 5’ untranslated regions. The human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) genome has a high GC content, suggesting the 5’UTRs of viral mRNAs may contain significant secondary structure and require DHX29 for their efficient ...Erik M, Lenarcic, Nathaniel J, Moorman

Chromatin Control by the Human Cytomegalovirus Immediate-Early 1 Protein
2019Human cytomegalovirus (hCMV), one of eight human herpesviruses, establishes lifelong "latent" infections in 40-100% of people worldwide. HCMV replication following primary infection or reactivation is known for causing developmental defects in human embryos and life-threatening disease in immunocompromised individuals, but preventive and therapeutic ...
