Human cytomegalovirus UL29/28 protein interacts with components of the NuRD complex which promote accumulation of immediate-early RNA.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2010
Histone deacetylation plays a pivotal role in regulating human cytomegalovirus gene expression. In this report, we have identified candidate HDAC1-interacting proteins in the context of infection by using a method for rapid immunoisolation of an epitope ...

E2F/Rb Family Proteins Mediate Interferon Induced Repression of Adenovirus Immediate Early Transcription to Promote Persistent Viral Infection. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2016
Interferons (IFNs) are cytokines that have pleiotropic effects and play important roles in innate and adaptive immunity. IFNs have broad antiviral properties and function by different mechanisms. IFNs fail to inhibit wild-type Adenovirus (Ad) replication

An acidic region of the 89K murine cytomegalovirus immediate early protein interacts with DNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The product of the ie 1 gene, the regulatory immediate early protein pp89 of murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV), interacts with core histones, which can mediate the association of pp89 with DNA.

Regulation of alphaherpesvirus infections by the ICP0 family of proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Immediate-early protein ICP0 of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is important for the regulation of lytic and latent viral infection. Like the related proteins expressed by other alphaherpesviruses, ICP0 has a zinc-stabilized RING finger domain that ...

The 89,000-Mr murine cytomegalovirus immediate-early protein activates gene transcription [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 1986
To study trans-activation of gene expression by murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) immediate-early (IE) proteins, the IE coding region 1 (ie1), which encodes the 89,000-Mr IE phosphoprotein (pp89), was stably introduced into L cells. A cell line was selected and characterized that efficiently expressed the authentic viral protein.

Gem: an Induced, Immediate Early Protein Belonging to the Ras Family [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 1994
A gene encoding a 35-kilodalton guanosine triphosphate (GTP)-binding protein, Gem, was cloned from mitogen-induced human peripheral blood T cells. Gem and Rad, the product of a gene overexpressed in skeletal muscle in individuals with Type II diabetes, constitute a new family of Ras-related GTP-binding proteins. The distinct structural features of this

Epigenetic Control of Cytomegalovirus Latency and Reactivation

open access: yesViruses, 2013
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) gene expression is repressed in latency due to heterochromatinization of viral genomes. In murine CMV (MCMV) latently infected mice, viral genomes are bound to histones with heterochromatic modifications, to enzymes that mediate ...

Human IFIT3 Protein Induces Interferon Signaling and Inhibits Adenovirus Immediate Early Gene Expression

open access: yesmBio, 2021
Interferons (IFNs) are one of the hallmarks of host antiviral immunity. IFNs exert their antiviral activities through the induction of IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs) and antiviral proteins; however, the mechanism by which ISGs inhibit adenovirus (Ad ...

The Core Histone-binding Region of the Murine Cytomegalovirus 89K Immediate Early Protein [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The gene regulatory immediate early protein, pp89, of murine cytomegalovirus interacts with both DNA-associated and isolated histones in vitro. We characterized the histone-binding region of pp89 and its cellular localization during cell division to ...

NPR1-Independent Activation of Immediate Early Salicylic Acid-Responsive Genes in Arabidopsis

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2004
Salicylic acid (SA) is a key signal for the activation of defense genes in response to stress. The activation of late defense genes by SA, such as PR-1, involves the participation of the NPR1 protein.
