Gonadotropin and kisspeptin gene expression, but not GnRH, are impaired in cFOS deficient mice. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
cFOS is a pleiotropic transcription factor, which binds to the AP1 site in the promoter of target genes. In the pituitary gonadotropes, cFOS mediates induction of FSHβ and GnRH receptor genes.

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Immediate Early Gene Expression in Experimental Epilepsy

open access: yesBrain Pathology, 1993
Neuronal excitation by experimentally induced seizures elicits the rapid induction of a set of genes called immediate early genes (IEGs). The gene products of fos, jun and Krox, multimember gene families that belong to the class of IEGs, participate in a fundamental biological control mechanism, the regulation of gene transcription.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Linear signaling in the Toll-Dorsal pathway of Drosophila: activated Pelle kinase specifies all threshold outputs of gene expression while the bHLH protein Twist specifies a subset [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Differential activation of the Toll receptor leads to the formation of a broad Dorsal nuclear gradient that specifies at least three patterning thresholds of gene activity along the dorsoventral axis of precellular embryos.

Immediate early genes expressed in chlorovirus infections

open access: yesVirology, 2004
Twenty-three chlorovirus genes expressed in host cells as early as 5-10 min postinfection (p.i.), or immediate early, were isolated and characterized. Some showed significant homology with those for transcriptional factors and mRNA-processing proteins including TFIIB, helicases, mRNA capping enzyme, nucleolin, and bean transcription factor. Others code

Molecular determinants of signal transduction in tropomyosin receptor kinases

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tropomyosin receptor kinases control critical neuronal functions, but how do the same receptors produce diverse cellular responses? This review explores the structural mechanisms behind Trk signaling diversity, focusing on allosteric modulation and ligand bias.

c-Fos expression induced by electroacupuncture at the Zusanli point in rats submitted to repeated immobilization

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2003
In laboratory animals, acupuncture needs to be performed on either anesthetized or, if unanesthetized, restrained subjects. Both procedures up-regulate c-Fos expression in several areas of the central nervous system, representing therefore a major ...

Inhibition of Murine Cytomegalovirus Infection in Animals by RNase P-Associated External Guide Sequences. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
External guide sequence (EGS) RNAs are associated with ribonuclease P (RNase P), a tRNA processing enzyme, and represent promising agents for gene-targeting applications as they can direct RNase-P-mediated cleavage of a target mRNA.

Influence of Isoflurane on Immediate-Early Gene Expression

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2016
Anterograde amnesia is a hallmark effect of volatile anesthetics. Isoflurane is known to affect both the translation and transcription of plasticity-associated genes required for normal memory formation in many brain regions. What is not known is whether isoflurane anesthesia prevents the initiation of transcription or whether it halts transcription ...
