Immersed Boundary-Finite Difference Lattice Boltzmann Method for Liquid-Solid Two-Phase Flows

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2011
An immersed boundary method based on a finite difference lattice Boltzmann method (IB-FDLBM) is presented. The FDLBM solves the discrete Boltzmann equation including an additional collision term by using finite difference schemes.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Simulation and investigations on the vibro-acoustic behavior of cylindrical shells in ice-covered water

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
Vibro-acoustic responses of cylindrical shells immersed in ice-covered water are typical acoustic-structure coupling problems. The dynamic model of the immersed cylindrical shell was established by Finite Element Method (FEM) to obtain the vibration ...

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

A comparative study of immersed-boundary interpolation methods for a flow around a stationary cylinder at low Reynolds number [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The accuracy and computational efficiency of various interpolation methods for the implementation of non grid-confirming boundaries is assessed. The aim of the research is to select an interpolation method that is both efficient and sufficiently accurate

An Immersed Boundary Model of the Cochlea with Parametric Forcing [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 2015
The cochlea or inner ear has a remarkable ability to amplify sound signals. This is understood to derive at least in part from some active process that magnifies vibrations of the basilar membrane (BM) and the cochlear partition in which it is embedded, to the extent that it overcomes the effect of viscous damping from the surrounding cochlear fluid ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...
