An immersed boundary method is improved and applied to 2-D flow fields involving a single stationary/moving object. The present immersed boundary method employs a body force proportional to a solid volume fraction for coupling the solid and fluid motions

An inverse problem formulation of the immersed‐boundary method [PDF]
AbstractWe formulate the immersed‐boundary method (IBM) as an inverse problem. A control variable is introduced on the boundary of a larger domain that encompasses the target domain. The optimal control is the one that minimizes the mismatch between the state and the desired boundary value along the immersed target‐domain boundary.

Sharp interface immersed boundary method for simulating three-dimensional swimming fish
A second order finite-difference numerical method is used to solve the Navier–Stokes equations of incompressible flow, in which the solid body with complex geometry is immersed into the fluid domain with orthogonal Cartesian meshes.

Topology optimization method for incompressible viscous flow applying an immersed boundary method
This paper proposes a new topology optimization method for steady state incompressible viscous flow. Since fluid flow profiles, such as velocity and pressure profiles, describe specific behavior on walls that fluid contacts, defined boundary conditions ...

A new ghost cell/level set method for moving boundary problems:application to tumor growth [PDF]
In this paper, we present a ghost cell/level set method for the evolution of interfaces whose normal velocity depend upon the solutions of linear and nonlinear quasi-steady reaction-diffusion equations with curvature-dependent boundary conditions.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

The effects of complex boundary conditions on flows are represented by a volume force in the immersed boundary methods. The problem with this representation is that the volume force exhibits non-physical oscillations in moving boundary simulations.

Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...
