The immobilization of non-rigid objects is a largely unaddressed subject. We explore the problem by studying the immobilization of a serial chain of polygons connected by rotational joints, or hinges, in a given placement with frictionless point contacts.

Immobilization of plant cells is still a young technology but this review illustrates the potential it has for improving the production of phytochemicals. The similarity between the immobilized state and whole tissue is emphasized and the way in which this can be used to advantage is discussed.

Pellicular immobilized enzymes
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology, 1974Abstract Methods for the preparation of shell-structured immobilized enzymes supported by a fluid impervious spherical core are outlined. The preparation of such trypsin resins by coreticulation of the enzyme with a copolymer of maleic anhydride and vinyl methylester in situ on the surface of glass beads is described and some properties of the ...

Several microalgae synthesize metabolites of great commercial interest. Microalgae also act as filters for wastewater N and P, heavy metals, and xenobiotic compounds. However, the cost-effective harvesting of microalgae is one of the major bottlenecks limiting the microalgal biomass applications.
