The immobilization of non-rigid objects is a largely unaddressed subject. We explore the problem by studying the immobilization of a serial chain of polygons connected by rotational joints, or hinges, in a given placement with frictionless point contacts.

Innovative Immobilization Matrices
Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2016We present a brief survey of some of the recent work of Professor Luis E. Díaz, performed together with his students and collaborators at the University of Buenos Aires. Dr Luis E. Díaz has been involved in research on biochemical and pharmaceutical sciences solving scientific and industry problems for over 40 years until he passed away. Prof.

We will be concerned in this chapter with methods that may be used to immobilize live rather than dead cells. The use of immobilized viable cells is seen as an alternative approach to extracellular metabolite production by traditional fermentation technology. There are a number of reasons why this may be advantageous.

Self-stimulatory responses of four retarded/autistic children were reduced using brief immobilization. A reversal design was employed such that immobilization was systematically applied and withdrawn to one category of responses while the effects of collateral responses were also assessed.

Several microalgae synthesize metabolites of great commercial interest. Microalgae also act as filters for wastewater N and P, heavy metals, and xenobiotic compounds. However, the cost-effective harvesting of microalgae is one of the major bottlenecks limiting the microalgal biomass applications.

To immobilize or not immobilize: that is the question.
Emergency medical services, 2006For those practicing selective immobilization, the strongest protection from liability is to avoid aggravating or causing injury by withholding c-spine immobilization from a patient who needs it. That means applying c-spine decision tools as objectively and carefully as possible.
