Immobilization Stress and Direct Glucocorticoid Effects on Rat Septohippocampus

International Journal of Neuroscience, 1988
The rat septohippocampal cholinergic system to a large extent regulates the adaptive physiological and behavioral response to stress. The mesoseptal dopaminergic (DA) system, one of the converging inputs to the lateral septum, exerts a tonic inhibitory action on the septohippocampal cholinergic neurons.

Effect of chronic nicotine treatment against repeated immobilization stress

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1987
Alpha 2 and beta adrenoceptors, and muscarinic cholinoceptors in 2 brain regions (cerebral cortex and hippocampus) were measured in rats which received either tap water or nicotine added to the drinking water (5-8 mg/kg/day) for 4 weeks, and immobilization stress (daily 2 hr) for the last 5 days.

Immobilization stress-induced anorexia is mediated independent of MyD88

NeuroReport, 2016
MyD88 is an adaptor protein for the toll-like receptor, which is involved in regulating innate immune function. Lipopolysaccharide-induced activation of toll-like receptor 4 signaling induces hypothalamic signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) phosphorylation and anorexia through MyD88.

Immobilization stress induces XBP1 splicing in the mouse brain

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2019
Cells activate the unfolded protein response (UPR) to cope with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. In the present study, we investigated the possible involvement of psychological stress on UPR induction in the mouse brain. When mice were exposed to immobilization stress for 8 h, XBP1 mRNA splicing was significantly induced in the hippocampus, cortex ...

Hesperidin May Protect Gastric Tissue against Immobilization Stress

2021
OBJECTIVE: To investigate antioxidant properties of hesperidin against gastric lesions in immobilized rats with immunostaining of caspase-3 and IL-10. STUDY DESIGN: Thirty male Wistar albino rats were assigned to control, stress, and stress+ hesperidin groups.

Immobilization Stress Increases Hepatic IL-6 Expression in Mice

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1997
When mice were subjected to restriction of movement in a small cylinder (immobilization stress), the serum interleukin (IL)-6 level rose in 1 h, following increased expression of IL-6 mRNA in both the liver and the spleen. The IL-6 mRNA induction was much greater in the liver than in the spleen when compared on a whole-organ basis.

Effects of Immobilization Stress on Renal Sympathetic Neurotransmission

Clinical and Experimental Hypertension. Part A: Theory and Practice, 1992
The effects immobilization stress on renal sympathetic neurotransmission as well as on heart, spleen and adrenal catecholamine content were examined in the rat. A single 2.5 hr stress period produced significant increases in blood pressure, heart rate, plasma norepinephrine and plasma epinephrine concentrations.

Lithium attenuates hypokinesia induced by immobilization stress in rats

Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry, 1995
1. Hypokinesia following immobilization stress in rats is attenuated by anti-depressant drugs used in the treatment of unipolar depression. Lithium has anti-depressant effects both clinically and in other animal models of depression, but the mechanism of its anti-depressant effect has not been elucidated. 2.

Anti-stress effect of astragaloside IV in immobilized mice

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2014
Astragaloside IV, a major component extracted from the roots of Astragalus membranaceus (AM), possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, anti-fibrotic, anti-infarction and immunoregulatory effects. To clarify anti-stress effect of AM, anxiolytic and anti-inflammatory effects of 80% ethanol extract of AM and astragaloside IV were investigated in ...

Immobilization stress affects sialyltransferase activity in rat tissues

2000
Excessive stress is one of the major problems in a modern society. A number of epidemiological and experimental studies clearly demonstrated a link between psychological stress and the development and course of many diseases, from simple virus infections and gastric ulcers, to cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
