The Yonkers Case: Separation of Powers as a Yardstick for Determining Official Immunity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Gasdermin D promotes influenza virus-induced mortality through neutrophil amplification of inflammation

open access: yesNature Communications
Influenza virus activates cellular inflammasome pathways, which can be both beneficial and detrimental to infection outcomes. Here, we investigate the function of the inflammasome-activated, pore-forming protein gasdermin D (GSDMD) during infection ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Batch Correction and Comparison of Intracellular Signaling Among Multiple Rheumatic and Inflammatory Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics
Assays that measure intracellular signaling can provide an especially mechanistic assessment of cellular states and are thereby useful for uncovering cellular physiology.

Developing a Vaccine Against Human Cytomegalovirus: Identifying and Targeting HCMV’s Immunological Achilles’ Heel

open access: yesVaccines
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a critical pathogen in immunocompromised populations, such as organ transplant recipients as well as congenitally infected neonates with immature immune systems. Despite decades of research and the growing financial burden
