Vaccinations are a cornerstone of the pretravel consultation. The pretravel provider should assess a traveler's past medical history, planned itinerary, activities, mode of travel, and duration of stay and make appropriate vaccine recommendations. Given that domestic vaccine-preventable illnesses are more common in international travelers than are ...

Vaccination is one of the most effective preventative health measures in modern times. It has positively affected the incidence and prevalence of a myriad of diseases, as well as improved both their morbidity and mortality. It is essential that health care providers understand the value of this intervention, promote comprehensive immunization coverage ...

The defense mechanism of the mammary gland is a complex system in which each component's function is not independent of the other. The various components of nonspecific resistance, antibody production and cell-mediated immune response can act to the benefit or detriment of the host. Our ability to predict and control each of these responses is limited.

The primary care physician has few tools as effective as immunization. Patients deserve to be advised about prophylaxis and appropriately treated when the need arises. Monitoring of the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) is the most efficient manner of keeping current.

Health inequities are the unjust differences in health among different social groups. Unfortunately, inequities are the norm, both in terms of health status and access to, and use of, health services. Childhood immunizations reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases and represent a cost-effective way to foster health equity.

The protection of travelers against vaccine-preventable disease is an important part of pre-travel preparation. This review discusses immunizations that should be given as part of routine health maintenance, regardless of whether the individual is traveling.

Immune proteasomes and immunity
Russian Journal of Developmental Biology, 2006A lot of facts that require understanding have been accumulated since immune proteasomes were discovered and their relationship with the immune response was established. For example, why are immune proteasomes present in all studied mammalian organs and tissues, including nonlymphoid tissues?

Food allergy is the manifestation of an abnormal immune response to antigen delivered by the oral route. Normal mucosal immune responses are generally associated with suppression of immunity. A normal mucosal immune response relies heavily on a number of factors: strong physical barriers, luminal digestion of potential antigens, selective antigen ...

Immune Responsiveness and Oral Immunization
International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 1979The effects on the immune response of daily feeding of 30 mg of human serum albumin to rats have been studied. Feeding for periods of 17–20 days consistently resulted in a specific systemic hyporesponsiveness evident on subsequent parenteral immunogen challenge.

Regional Immunity and Immune Privilege
2007The immune system is confronted with an endless array of potential pathogens and immunogens and it must make a decision regarding the nature of the response that is invoked. Robust immune-mediated inflammation is necessary to purge some life-threatening infections. In other conditions, immune responses must be tempered to reduce the risk of irreparable
