Immune Thrombocytopenia in Antiphospholipid Syndrome: Is It Primary or Secondary? [PDF]

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2021
Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is frequently associated with thrombocytopenia, in most cases mild and in the absence of major bleedings. In some patients with a confirmed APS diagnosis, secondary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) may lead to severe thrombocytopenia with consequent major bleeding.

Pulmonary Complications Secondary to Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chronic Diseases, 2019
Background. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have changed the landscape in the treatment of a number of cancers. Immune-related adverse events (irAEs) have emerged as a serious clinical problem with the use of ICI. Methods. All oncology patients diagnosed with pulmonary complications secondary to ICI at Mayo Clinic Rochester from January 1, 2012 to ...

Per-oral immunization with antigen-conjugated nanoparticles followed by sub-cutaneous boosting immunization induces long-lasting mucosal and systemic antibody responses in mice.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Food or water-borne enteric pathogens invade their hosts via intestinal mucosal surfaces, thus developing effective oral vaccines would greatly reduce the burden of infectious diseases.

Visualization of immune pathways that enhance the neutralizing antibody response to vaccines after primary immunization

open access: yesmBio
We examined the relationship between the association of a vaccine antigen with immune cells in secondary lymphoid organs shortly after immunization and the resulting neutralizing antibody response induced by that antigen using three antigenic forms of ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
