Immunoglobulin A Deficiency

2018
The exact cause of IgA deficiency is unknown and may result from infection and environmental exposures and also has a familial component. IgA is critically important for mucosal immunity, particularly in the sinopulmonary and gastrointestinal systems. Recurrent infection, allergic reactions, and autoimmunity are common complications.

Monomeric immunoglobulin A protects glomerulus against polymeric immunoglobulin A immune complex in experimental immunoglobulin A nephropathy.

Laboratory investigation; a journal of technical methods and pathology, 1996
Polymeric (p) IgA constitutes 13% of total serum IgA, whereas monomeric (m) IgA represents the other 87%. pIgA tends to form complexes in the circulation that eventually localize in the glomerulus. mIgA is a nonprecipitable antibody. When complexed with an antigen in vivo, the circulating mIgA immune complex (IC) thus formed does not deposit in the ...

Immunoglobulin A nephropathy

2009
The term immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgA nephropathy or IgA N) refers to a primary glomerular disease characterized by the dominant or co-dominant, diffuse, and generalized mesangial deposition of IgA, often accompanied by deposition of IgG and the C3 component of complement in a similar distribution (Donadio and Grande, 2004; Barratt and Feehally ...

Immunoglobulin A nephropathy.

Archives of internal medicine, 1975
Of 475 renal biopsles examined by immunofluorescence, IgA was seen located selectively in the glomerular mesangium of 18 patients. These patients were generally young men and had hematuria, only minimal proteinuria, and normal renal function. Glomerular lesions consisted of focal segmental capillary hypercellularity or sclerosis and mesangial ...

[Secretory immunoglobulin A].

Allergie und Immunologie, 1978
Secretory IgA is the prevailung immunoglobulin on the mucous membranes of different tissues. It is a polymer immunoglobulin and in comparison to the serum IgA the secretory IgA has a additional polypeptide chain, the secretory component. The secretory IgA is synthesized locally in the mucosa.
