Emerging trends in Lassa fever: redefining the role of immunoglobulin M and inflammation in diagnosing acute infection

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2011
BackgroundLassa fever (LF) is a devastating hemorrhagic viral disease that is endemic to West Africa and responsible for thousands of human deaths each year.

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

An Investigation into Outlier Elimination and Calculation Methods in the Determination of Reference Intervals using Serum Immunoglobulin A as a Model Data Collection [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Background: Reference intervals are essential to interpret diagnostic tests, but their determination has become controversial. Methods: In this paper parametric, non-parametric and robust reference intervals with Tukey and block elimination are calculated from a dataset of over 32,000 serum immunoglobulin A (IgA) measurements.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Functional immunoglobulin transgenes guide ordered B-cell differentiation in Rag-1-deficient mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We have examined the regulatory role of the individual components of the immunoglobulin antigen receptor in B-cell development by transgenic complementation of Rag-1 deficient (Rag-1⁻) mice. Complementation with a membrane µ heavy chain (µHC) gene allows

Triiodothyronine suppresses humoral immunity but not T-cell-mediated immune response in incubating female eiders (Somateria mollissima)

open access: yes, 2007
Immunity is believed to share limited resources with other physiological functions and this may partly account for the fitness costs of reproduction. Previous studies have shown that the acquired immunity of female common eiders (Somateria mollissima) is

B-1 and B-2 Cell–Derived Immunoglobulin M Antibodies Are Nonredundant Components of the Protective Response to Influenza Virus Infection

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 2000
We have studied the role of secreted immunoglobulin (Ig)M in protection from infection with influenza virus and delineated the relative contributions of B-1 versus B-2 cell-derived IgM in this process.

Exploration of heterogeneity and recurrence signatures in hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study leveraged public datasets and integrative bioinformatic analysis to dissect malignant cell heterogeneity between relapsed and primary HCC, focusing on intercellular communication, differentiation status, metabolic activity, and transcriptomic profiles.

Serologic assays specific to immunoglobulin M antibodies against hepatitis E virus: pangenotypic evaluation of performances.

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2010
Six immunoassays for detecting immunoglobulin M antibodies to hepatitis E virus were evaluated. Serum samples representing acute infection by each of the 4 viral genotypes as well as nonacute hepatitis E virus infection constituted the test panels ...
