IMMUNOLOGICAL RESTITUTION IN LYMPHOPENIC IMMUNOLOGICAL DEFICIENCY SYNDROME
Abstract All previous attempts at restoring immunological capacity in cases of the lymphopenic (Swiss type) immunological deficiency syndrome have failed. An 8-month-old boy with this syndrome and oral moniliasis was given maternal blood and foetal thymus and liver cells.

The gastrointestinal tract is a major target organ of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Opportunistic infections or Kaposi's sarcoma within the gastrointestinal tract are the two most frequent lesions. Diarrhoea, weight loss or odynophagy may be the presenting symptoms or signs for which a gastroenterological consultation is sought.
