Impact angle control of interplanetary shock geoeffectiveness [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2014
AbstractWe use Open Geospace General Circulation Model global MHD simulations to study the nightside magnetospheric, magnetotail, and ionospheric responses to interplanetary (IP) fast forward shocks. Three cases are presented in this study: two inclined oblique shocks, hereafter IOS‐1 and IOS‐2, where the latter has a Mach number twice stronger than ...

Probing Magnetic Pulse Welding of Thin-Walled Tubes

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, 2020
Magnetic pulse welding is a solid-state joining technology, based on the use of electromagnetic forces to deform and to weld workpieces. Since no external heat sources are used during the magnetic pulse welding process, it offers important advantages for

The effect of impingement angle on erosion wear characteristics of HVOF sprayed WC-Ni and WC-Cr3C2-Ni cermet composite coatings

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2020
The present study investigated the erosion wear behavior of WC-Ni and WC-Cr _3 C _2 -Ni cermet coatings deposited by high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spray process on the substrate of 1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel.

Erosion Behaviour of API X100 Pipeline Steel at Various Impact Angles and Particle Speeds

open access: yesMetals, 2016
Erosion is the gradual removal of material due to solid particle impingement and results in a failure of pipeline materials. In this study, a series of erosion tests were carried out to investigate the influence of particle speed and impact angle on the ...

Definition of Impact Angle and Impact Angle Control Law Against Maneuvering Target

open access: yesJournal of the Korean Society for Aeronautical & Space Sciences, 2015
In this paper, a guidance law for intercepting maneuvering target with a desired impact angle is proposed. The proposed guidance law is modified from the optimal impact angle control law for a fixed target and given by a biased PN law with the impact angle control term in addition to the conventional PN law.

Erosion Behavior of Steel Pipes Carrying of Some Iraqi Crude Oils [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2016
This paper deals with erosion that is defined as a process of progressive removal of material from a target surface due to repeated impacts of solid particles for the special case of two phases (liquid and solid). Experimental investigation dependence on

Light's Bending Angle due to Black Holes: From the Photon Sphere to Infinity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The bending angle of light is a central quantity in the theory of gravitational lensing. We develop an analytical perturbation framework for calculating the bending angle of light rays lensed by a Schwarzschild black hole.
