The electron impact ionization cross section of is calculated using a distorted-wave approximation. The calculated cross section is compared to the experimental results of Peart and Dolder. The simplicity of the system allows an assessment of the accuracy of the distorted-wave approximation without complications from inaccuracies in the target state ...

Electron-impact ionization of CCl4 and CCl2F2
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2004Absolute partial and total cross sections for electron-impact ionization of CCl4 and CCl2F2 are reported for electron energies from threshold to 1000 eV. The product ions are mass analyzed using a time-of-flight mass spectrometer and detected with a position-sensitive detector whose output demonstrates that all product ion species are collected with ...

Electron-impact ionization of the Fe atom
Physical Review A, 1995The electron-impact ionization of the Fe atom is calculated in a distorted-wave approximation. A prior form of the scattering amplitude, containing a mixture of atomc and ionic potentials, produces a giant resonance in the cross section. A post form of the scattering amplitude, containing only ionic potentials, produces a cross section devoid of shape ...

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1992
Electron impact ionization is-besides photon and ion impact ionization-the major ionization mechanism in natural and laboratory plasmas. Quantitative information on the kinetics of electron impact ionization of atoms, molecules and clusters (i.e. ionization cross sections) is therefore of the utmost importance for the understanding of this state of ...

Impact ionization in silicon: A microscopic view
Journal of Applied Physics, 1998A microscopic, single-particle view of impact ionization in silicon is obtained from a modified full-band Monte Carlo simulation. For each ionization event, the balance between the energies supplied by the electric field and lost to the lattice is plotted as a function of time before ionization.

Electron Impact Ionization in the Vicinity of Comets
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1987The solar wind interacts very strongly with the extensive cometary coma, and the various interaction processes are initiated by the ionization of cometary neutrals. The main ionization mechanism far outside the cometary bow shock is photoionization by solar extreme ultraviolet radiation.
