Anticancer sensitivities and biological characteristics of HCT116 cells resistant to the selective poly(ADP‐ribose) glycohydrolase inhibitor

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed alterations of PAR metabolism‐related proteins in PARG inhibitor‐resistant HCT116RPDD cells. Although PARG levels remained unchanged, HCT116RPDD cells exhibited reduced PARP1 and ARH3 expression and elevated PAR levels. Interestingly, HCT116RPDD cells exhibited slightly elevated intracellular NAD+/NADH and ATP levels. Our findings suggest a

Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

The role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Disrupted lipid metabolism, through alterations in lipid species or lipid droplet accumulation, can drive neuronal senescence. However, lipid dyshomeostasis can also occur alongside neuronal senescence, further amplifying tissue damage. Delineating how lipid‐induced senescence emerges in neurons and glial cells, and how it contributes to ageing and ...

Bio-inspired impact-resistant composites

Acta Biomaterialia, 2014
Through evolutionary processes, biological composites have been optimized to fulfil specific functions. This optimization is exemplified in the mineralized dactyl club of the smashing predator stomatopod (specifically, Odontodactylus scyllarus). This crustacean's club has been designed to withstand the thousands of high-velocity blows that it delivers ...

IMPACT RESISTANCE OF BAR GLASSES

The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1993
Bar glasses are often used as weapons in interpersonal violence. Violence often erupts spontaneously and assailants use objects close to hand as weapons. After an initial national Accident and Emergency Department study to identify glass designs most often implicated in interpersonal violence, the impact resistance of 1-pint beer glasses was tested in ...

Impact resistant drumhead

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1989
A drumhead for percussion instruments having improved resistance against denting and damaging by drumstick impact includes a synthetic plastic film base sheet and a protective overlay adhered to the upper, impact surface of the base sheet. The protective overlay consists of two thin sheets of woven synthetic plastic cloth which are bonded together with

Resistance to external impact

2006
Abstract This chapter considers the external impact of crashing aircraft, sabotage, and the effect of explosive pressure wave. The external impact is considered with reference to engineering defence measures: aircraft impact, otherwise, can be prevented, with variable degrees of effectiveness, by provisions such as by modifying flight corridors or by

Clinical Impact of Antibiotic Resistance

1998
The development of antimicrobial agents for clinical use has brought unquestionable benefits to individuals and to society. Infections that formerly were frequently fatal have become routinely curable. Furthermore, the availability of effective antibiotic therapy has facilitated the employment by physicians of potent immunosuppressive therapy in the ...
