Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Neuropathy

The Neurologist, 2008
Peripheral neuropathy is common. Diabetes is the most common cause, accounting for approximately half of cases, but up to 1/3rd of neuropathy patients have no identifiable etiology. Among this population, impaired glucose tolerance (IGT or "prediabetes") is observed in approximately 40%.

Hyperproinsulinaemia in Impaired Glucose Tolerance

Clinical Science, 1993
1. Basal circulating concentrations of islet B cell products were measured using two-site monoclonal antibody-based immunoradiometric assays after a 10 h overnight fast in a group of non-obese subjects with recently diagnosed impaired glucose tolerance (World Health Organization criteria).

Metabolic heterogeneity in impaired glucose tolerance

Metabolism, 1997
Type II (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus is a metabolically heterogeneous condition, and is invariably preceded by impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). We examined whether metabolic heterogeneity is a feature of IGT. Three subject groups were studied: IGT subjects with two or more living non-insulin-dependent diabetic relatives (IGTWF, n = 17 ...

Major depression and impaired glucose tolerance

Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology & Diabetes, 2000
Hypercortisolism is a frequent endocrine sign in major depression and cortisol is a well-known anti-insulinergic hormone. Impaired oral glucose tolerance has already been described in major depression. However, thus far no information is available on spontaneous, circadian insulin secretion in patients.

Tardive dyskinesia and impaired glucose tolerance

Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental, 2002
AbstractThe authors examined the role of impaired glucose metabolism in the pathophysiology of tardive dyskinesia in schizophrenic patients with and without persistent TD. Glucose tolerance and insulin levels were determined in 86 patients with persistent tardive dyskinesia and in 108 patients without tardive dyskinesia.

Impaired glucose tolerance in hepatic schistosomiasis

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1974
Abstract Oral and intravenous glucose tolerance tests were carried out on patients with Schistosoma mansoni infection with hepatic enlargement. Impaired glucose tolerance was discovered by the oral and intravenous tests. The impaired glucose tolerance was not related to the severity of liver damage as revealed by liver function tests.

Impaired Glucose Tolerance in Pima Indians

Diabetic Medicine, 1996
More than 50% of Pima Indians/develop NIDDM. This disorder is preceded by impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and we tested the hypothesis that the elevated glucose levels in IGT must be due to reduced β‐cell function. We first determined the plasma glucose/plasma insulin and plasma insulin/insulin resistance relationships in individuals with NGT ...

Daytime variations in glucose tolerance in people with impaired glucose tolerance

Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, 2006
To determine whether glucose tolerance varies throughout the day in people with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). We studied 15 healthy IGT, and 18 matched normal glucose tolerant (NGT) individuals. Blood samples were taken every 30-120 min during a 24h period in which all individuals had three mixed meals and nocturnal sleep. We measured glucose, free
