Backscattering Enhancement by an Impedance Rough Surface

Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 1991
We investigated the diffusive reflection of electromagnetic waves from a slightly rough impedance surface separating vacuum and dielectric media with a large positive real part of the dielectric constant. The essential peculiarity of this case is the absence of surface waves on the plane surface.

An IMC based enhancement of accuracy and robustness of impedance control

2008 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2008
An accurate and robust impedance control technique is developed based on internal model control structure and time-delay estimation: the former injects desired impedance and corrects dynamics estimation error; the latter estimates and compensates the nonlinear dynamics of robot manipulators.

Impedance fields for trajectory enhancement in the intelligent assist device

Proceedings 2000 ICRA. Millennium Conference. IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation. Symposia Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37065), 2002
Mechanical manipulators are commonly used in manufacturing applications to aid in the handling of large, bulky, or dangerous materials. Often these heavy lift assist devices are designed to lift a variety of payloads and are controlled by a human operator A recent trend has been to automate more of the function of the manipulator and collocate the ...

Anisotropic impedance surfaces for enhanced antenna isolation

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
Anisotropic impedance surfaces, which include metasurfaces and high impedance surfaces (HIS), can be designed to control the amplitude and propagation direction of surface electromagnetic waves and are an effective means to enhance the isolation between antennas that share a common ground plane.

Enhancement of kinesthetic perception for microsurgical teleoperation using impedance-shaping

2008 30th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2008
A new control scheme is developed in this paper for a bilateral teleoperation system for microsurgical applications. The main objective of the proposed control scheme is to enhance the kinesthetic perception of the operator. First, the kinesthetic perception, based on psychophysics, is classified into three metrics of detection, sensitivity of ...

Cavity Enhanced Polarization Impedance Matching Spectroscopy

Light, Energy and the Environement 2015, 2015
We present a highly sensitive optical cavity enhanced architecture for gas absorption measurements. A CO2 absorption line was measured with a low cavity finesse of 100, and noise equivalent absorption of 3.0X10-9 Hz-1/2 was achieved.

Impedance Bandwidth Enhancement For UWB Slot Antenna

2007 International workshop on Antenna Technology: Small and Smart Antennas Metamaterials and Applications, 2007
A design for enhancing impedance bandwidth of wideband slot antenna is proposed and studied. The wideband slot antenna with a finite ground plane on the 50 ohm SMA connector is used for enhancing the impedance bandwidth. The measured results of the proposed antenna show that the impedance bandwidth is related with dimensions of a finite ground plane ...

Enhancement of Impedance Matching of Rectangular Patch to the Elimination of the Surface Waves

Wireless Personal Communications, 2020
This paper presents to enhance the input impedance matching of the rectangle microstrip patch due to the dwindling of the surface waves. The properties of this antenna have been enhanced by the enhancement of the input impedance matching. This is to achieve with the use of three techniques, which are the defective ground structure, intrude a U-shaped ...

Impedance matching for enhanced waveguide/photodetector integration

Applied Physics Letters, 1989
A novel impedance-matched structure is proposed for improved coupling in evanescently coupled, integrated waveguide/photodetectors. We show that insertion of an impedance-matching layer between waveguide and detector regions can improve the coupling by a factor of ≊7, resulting in shorter detectors with lower capacitance and higher frequency response ...

Backscattering enhancement from surfaces with random impedance

Physics Letters A, 1993
Abstract Intensity enchancement in the retroreflection direction is studied for waves scattered by a random interface which has a bound state (surface wave). We have found that the enhanced backscattering peak appears as the result of competition of two mechanism: multiple scattering of the surface wave along the interface, and its leakage to the ...
